<image:caption>RUTH ELLIOTT - Brisbane QLD Ruth, a Brisbane based potter works from her tiny home studio, mostly making hand-built or wheel thrown vases that tend to be quite geometric, natural and textural. She loves all things handmade and seeks out local makers for most of the things she buys . . . knowing the story behind the object is important to her. Ruth has always been a maker – from lead-light to needlework or drawing. About 6 years ago, she fell in love with ceramics and went on to spend 2 years learning ceramic skills at the Brisbane Institute of Art . . . meeting some great potters along the way. Aside from ceramics, Ruth is mum to three school aged boys and in her spare time enjoys studying Visual Arts with particular interests in Australian Art History, Sculpture and Contemporary art.</image:caption>

<image:caption>COMFORT AND CALM - Gold Coast QLD Located on the Gold Coast, Jac’s ceramic work is inspired by natural surrounds with a strong emphasis upon woodlands and forest inspirations. Created ‘for the sake of keeping’, her pieces are textured using a variety of organic matter, such as pine cones, tree bark, seed pods and gum nuts amongst others that are foraged from natural environments. Jac works with stoneware clay that she manipulates using a variety of traditional techniques: pinching, coiling and slab rolling. This process of hand building allows her to focus on subtle detail and give time to each piece. Works are careful hand-painted with earthy glazes to give a natural, rustic aesthetic. Each piece of collection is named after places that hold special memories for Jac. . . . “My work is intended to instill a sense of calm and to evoke a feeling of being in a place close to nature’s heart’.</image:caption>

<image:caption>MARI BRAY - Gold Coast QLD Mari Bray Ceramics is a sustainable Australian business based on the Gold Coast in QLD, where she proudly create handmade, one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces inspired by her Japanese-Brazilian heritage. Her art became her voice to tell her story which involves happy colours, power of words and rich Brazilian culture. Her intention is to create unique pieces that connect with people’s emotions focusing on reminding that everyone is beautiful and is here to fly high.

Mari’s signature piece is the Moringa which is a ceramic water vessel and the cup is the lid. . . . “Traditionally in Brazil we place the Moringa on the bedside table to drink water at night. On each moringa I hand paint in a subtle way a Divine word as I believe it will affect the power of the water you will drink everyday”. My favourite Divine words are JOY, LOVE, ABUNDANCE, BALANCE and GRATITUDE.</image:caption>

<image:caption>TEA4TWO ART - Adelaide SA Tea4Two Art uses beautiful white porcelain to create unique gift, homeware and jewellery pieces. Every piece is completely hand-formed and from the designing and making stage through to the firing processes, Alana completes every step in her home studio in Adelaide. Drawing inspiration from nature, texture and her country upbringing, Alana forms small collections of bespoke table ware, ring dishes, necklaces, hanging mobiles, earrings, teapots and the list goes on! It began as a need for an outlet from Art teaching, being a wife & mother to something that keeps Alana happily busy and brings creative fulfillment. Making ceramics has many steps and she enjoys (most) of the processes to achieve an end result that will last a lifetime.</image:caption>

Clay is a nuanced material that transcends the domestic environment and confidently straddles the perceived divide between art and design. . . . “I strive to inject my practice with subtlety and a whimsical strength which leads me to incorporate materials ranging from metal to plants. What excites me is subverting the perception that ceramics has in the broader community and opening up a dialogue by producing works which are approachable, exciting, fun and sexy”.</image:caption>

<image:caption>LITTLE TREE STUDIO - Canberra ACT Alexander has been creating art and playing with mud for as long as he can remember and regularly exhibits his work in galleries in Sydney and Canberra. Over the years he has worked with many mediums, his favourites being clay. Alex started his ceramics journey in Darlinghurst Sydney when he studied with renowned potter Cameron Williams. Being a true Libra, his work is constantly evolving and is incredibly creative and diverse. Alexander tells us consistency is just not in his nature, and although this often brings turmoil into his life, over the years, he has learnt to embrace it while letting the constant movement breathe life into his art. No piece is ever the same. His ceramic work includes beautiful Wabi-Sabi styled tableware, homeware and a vast variety of sculpture pieces. After travelling around Europe with his partner in 2019 — and his fascination with traditional architect forms — his current sculpture love is one of creating ceramic houses and other architect forms. Alexander most recently exhibited his work at the Canberra Potters Gallery. Day to day he runs a design agency with his partner and creates art from his studio in Canberra.</image:caption>

<image:caption>JENN JOHNSTON CERAMICS - Mullumbimby NSW After growing up in the bushy outskirts of Melbourne, followed by a stint in the inner city and a career in health research and policy, my husband and I made a sea/tree change to Northern NSW in 2009. Making this move gave me the space to start exploring my creative passions, and my long held desire to work with clay. I had the opportunity to take an introductory course in ceramics at a local studio, and immediately felt at home at the wheel: I discovered a passion and drive for creating ceramics, and my eye were opened to a new way of experiencing design and art. In my studio nestled in my garden in Mullumbimby, I create elegant, functional, hand crafted ceramics. My wheel-thrown and hand-built high-fired stoneware and porcelain pieces reflect my love of gardening, travel, entertaining and contemporary design. My approach to my work is also strongly influenced by my appreciation of Japanese aesthetics. My use of high-fired clays means that my pieces are durable enough for everyday use.</image:caption>

This small ceramics studio is nestled in Sydney’s inner-west and it is from here that Louise produces her ranges of handmade porcelain tablewares and homewares. Every piece passes through the hands of a maker, being shaped and changed as it goes through the ceramic process and embellished with individual pressings, carvings or colourings. We produce a wide range of cups, plates, bowls, platters and vases in multiple styles, but all united by beauty and utility. Post breast cancer treatment, she had to figure out exactly what she did have time for and it certainly wasn’t her previous career. Tracy’s brain seemed to have rewired itself and sought more creative pursuits instead. So, Shut Up and Relax Ceramics began, in Brisbane, Australia. . . . I’m Tracy Murray, the maker and designer of Shut up and Relax Ceramics. I’m a hand building ceramicist, working in the under croft of our tiny Queenslander, in Brisbane, Australia. What I now love is making ceramics and guiding others in workshops. I think workshops are the best way to share my passion for making with clay and to show people that everyone has artistic ability. You just need to make the time to create. And for me, celebrating each remarkable ordinary day of living is a way for my overthinking-never-shut-up-brain to chill out. Just a bit. I like to share that too, we all need some calm.</image:caption>

She makes functional ceramics under the name Feuerspiel ('foy-er-sh-peel'), a German word roughly translated to 'Fire Game', or 'Fire Play' as her art is formed with fire and heat. Jessica is a proud alumnus of Sydney University's Sydney College of the Arts where she learned the tools of her trade. Feuerspiel makes 100% percent handmade, durable ceramics, influenced by traditional Japanese pottery as well as Scandinavian minimalist design. All works are made lovingly by hand, right down to the glazes which are specially formulated and mixed from scratch.</image:caption>

<image:caption>HAYDEN YOULLEY DESIGN - Marrickville NSW Hayden Youlley studied a Bachelor of Design at COFA which gave him the opportunity to experiment with various design disciplines and introduced him to ceramics. Things really clicked for Hayden as a designer when he found ceramics in second year because he felt like he’d found a medium that gave him the freedom to create in the moment and the ability to explore whole ideas from start to finish. The endless possibilities malleable clay offered to explore his ideas about of surface, scale and volume really sparked his interest. Once he started working with clay, he realised that it appealed not only to his fascination with materials and process but also to his sense of independence as a designer. It’s the only medium he has worked with that he can use to make a product by doing each step in the process himself - from designing and prototyping to realising and manufacturing. For Hayden, the process of designing, prototyping and producing ceramics, both sculptural and functional, involves the right mix of instant satisfaction, challenge, surprise, problem solving and beauty to keep me interested in exploring all its possibilities. That’s the fanciest way he has found to say that it is a really fun and rewarding way to get your hands dirty and throw mud around all day.</image:caption>

<image:caption>THE KOOKIE STUDIO - Sydney NSW I’m Natalie Ding, a professional pet and family portrait artist by day and chief visionary of The Kookie Studio at all other times! Here, I create artworks that explore self, artworks that add a little joy to your walls and a lot of confidence to your life! I've been painting since I was 8 years old. Growing up in an Asian-Australian family, I followed custom and did an Accounting and Finance degree before entering the business world, taking on a number of roles in corporate finance and innovative startups. But I soon realised that I can, should and must make my own way in the world as the most expressive version of myself possible. I drive a hot pink car, but being the centre of attention Freaks. Me. Out. Creating art is as much a part of my own personal therapy and journey to confidence and self-love as it is about painting for others. It is my mission to inspire a community of explorers of the self and soul, who support each other as we grow and become who we are meant to be. You will see these pops of colour throughout my work as well. I believe that when we show up in the world as the most authentic version of ourselves, we free others to do the same. Exploration, freedom, self-empowerment and joy are some of my strongest values, and are reflected in every piece I create. Three years ago, Kookie the dog came into our family and gave me the motivation and confidence to start creating pet portraits. That kicked off my artistic career capturing magical memories with pet and human portraits in a variety of art styles...if you ever need custom artwork, head on over to Art N Kookies!</image:caption>

My work is highly detailed and colourful and I create in pastel, watercolour and acrylic. "I am fascinated by birds. I spend my life looking up. They are survivors from a time before time. They are not bound to the earth. I live with birds and they fill my life with joy (and chew my stuff)! I love to create detailed images of birds so that the observer cannot miss a single aspect of their beauty." Capturing the personality and joy of her subjects, Shannon's playful style creates a wonderful sense of movement with intricate ink strokes and patterns that is a wonderful textural journey for the eye. Filled with character, each artwork is created with the hope that it inspires people to appreciate Australia's incredibly unique wildlife while raising awareness of dwindling populations and habitat. Shannon's artworks are painted in Australia but hang on walls around the world – adding pieces of ‘Straya’ everywhere! Being incredibly conscious of the environment, Shannon does not mass produce; only creating small runs, predominantly printing on recycled and/or 100% organic mediums while still maintaining products of the highest quality.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Art - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>LISA FAHEY - Wollongong NSW I am an artist based in Wollongong, NSW; I grew up here between the mountains and the sea. My passion lies in painting with bright and bold colours. Australian native animals, especially birds make up a lot of my inspiration, though my latest body of work is exploring flora. I like to accentuate the hints of colour I see within my subject matter. I love painting with a palette knife and I use mainly acrylic paints. I love to add texture to the canvas with deliberate strokes that give the subject matter definition without it always being obvious. I am a full time artist working from my home studio. I try and paint almost every day in between looking after 2 school aged children, 3 cats, 2 dogs and 10 fish tanks, you may now get the idea why I am so inspired by animals. We also do a lot of camping with the kids and I find great inspiration from seeing new sights. I once read a quote that said 'The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul', I am not sure who said it, but it sure resonates with me and it has been a desire I have had my whole life, from winning my first colouring in competition at the age of 2, to the desire that still grows inside of me now. I can't imagine doing anything else for a living after I have been so fortunate to do so well these last few years. I have been creating a series that I call ‘Out of the Grey’. The paintings are in support of someone very close to me who has publicly come out and I decided to do the series to show my support for them. The idea is for the birds or animals to have the colours of the pride flag splashed proudly on them with a grey background as if they are coming out of the grey area that has been holding them back and coming out into the light/colour and feeling happy and proud of who they are.</image:caption>

<image:caption>DONE BY HAND – COTTON - Sydney, NSW Daughter of a maker, lover of making – handcrafted projects have always been a passion. Growing up, I’d always remembered the adorned hankies being flung around at weddings and always thought they were so beautiful. Modern times have seen traditions like this lost. Traditions of passing beautifully beaded and embroidered cotton hankies through the family as heirlooms. So I put my quality workmanship and intricate needlework skills to task allowing this tradition of my heritage to live on through me, and the many families that will nurture these beautifully handcrafted pieces. Traditional at Macedonian weddings, beaded hankies are used to turn and wave in the air as a gesture of celebration when dancing. These delicate hankies are 100% cotton and hand-beaded by myself using a variety of crystals, seed-beads, metals, sequins and beautiful gemstones. Knowing they will be used at such joyous occasions like weddings and christenings is why I love beading them, and there is nothing more rewarding than carrying on this Macedonian tradition. I hope you enjoy your beautifully hand-crafted handkerchief. It has been Done by Hand. Lena Founder + Fellow Creative Done by Hand</image:caption>

Originally hailing from Argentina, it was in her home country that Lola first honed her craft. She is consistently influenced by ancient art forms that have existed for centuries, drawing upon them and adding her own contemporary flare to each of her creations. Mum has always been an amazing cook, and for many years I had been looking for a way to honour her culinary genius. Mum’s family-loved jam is always requested by many which soon helped me realise just how unique this sunset coloured doce really was. Hours perfecting her recipe by the stove and it was finally just right! With Mum by my side, I introduce to you DOCE – (meaning sweet/jam) our family’s way of nurturing the tastes and smells of our beloved Portugal. <image:caption>MISTY’S SALTED CARAMEL - Melbourne VIC Hi there. I’m Misty, the founder and Queen Caramel Chef at Misty’s Salted Caramel. When I started making salted caramel as gifts for my friends and family, I could never have foreseen the journey that lay ahead. Years… and countless thousands of jars of caramel later, I feel like one of the lucky ones. I got the opportunity to quit my day job and follow my dream: To build my own successful business, and to craft the finest salted caramel available anywhere. Now ‘Misty's Salted Caramel’, is stocked in more than 170 stores across Australia and Singapore and we’re growing every day. You may even have encountered my caramel oozing happily inside your favourite dishes at your local cafe, restaurant, or bakery. My business is a proud participant in our collective national obsession with all things fine and all things food. I’ve put a whole bunch of love and time and care into each and every one of those little jars and I’m really proud of what I’ve delivered. Thanks for taking the time to drop in on my labor of love. I hope my Salted Caramel brings a smile to your face.</image:caption>

After spending 20 years in the corporate world, Liat was surprised to find that becoming a mother brought out her creative side; and rather than returning to IT Project Management as her children grew older she turned her hobby into her work. Liat creates all of the Little Hurricane Co. lines in her home studio and works with only environmentally sound materials, such as eco-resin, which is a petroleum free, bio-based product. Liat often collects the botanicals from her garden or from the bush on the outskirts of the city and then carefully presses and dries each one, ready to be preserved into delicate, ephemeral, wearable art. What’s most compelling about Leonie’s work is her approach to the melding of the traditional and contemporary. With panache, of course. Not one to shy away from the impossible, we return to the idea of object as art, and therein lies the ethos of Leonie’s work as a designer and creator. Using traditional methods, like wax carving; Leonie’s intention is an exploration, an enquiry of the intersections of tradition, culture and craft. There’s a space inside of this that is minimalist, refined and unpretentious - and this is the space that the work assuredly occupies. Stone and metal and material, sculpted and designed to respond to the unique movements of the human body.</image:caption>

It’s one designer and maker Sally, has always loved working on a big scale from big artworks to 15years of making couture wedding dresses. It was while she was travelling with her young family that she learnt how to crochet. This inspired her and she spent a lot of time trying to source the biggest, finest Australian Merino Wool. Sally found the best quality and took her crochet designs to the next size level. She made her parents an oversized chunky bed throw. People’s reaction to it was undeniable. And she loved working with this amazing fibre. But coming from a fashion background her designs naturally took a turn towards fashion. She became known for her Statement Scarves and then Crazy warm Beanies, Hoodies and other unique creations, all her own designs and patterns, all made using her husband’s hand-carved Giant Crochet Hooks (from Gum Branches!) Truly an Aussie product through and through! And as the creative mind can never stay still for long, Sally loves continually coming up with new products, including D.I.Y. Kits to make your own scarf, and a whole range of beautiful products for Christmas decorating. Please feel free to touch and feel the warmth and quality of the amazing Merino Wool fibre that it is and buy yourself a piece to enjoy!</image:caption>

<image:caption>GRACIE KEAL - Melbourne VIC Hello! I’m Cian Cottee, Designer-Maker of Gracie Keal. After studying Printed Textile Design in my homeland of England, I decided it was time to light my own path and in 2015 I moved to Melbourne and launched Gracie Keal. It’s no surprise that at the bottom of my bag for that fateful journey was a matted bunny that I’ve shared a bed with since my late teens. That’s what it’s all about for me - having a little furry someone that you just can’t make that journey without. Someone who’s always there, no matter what. With an affection for colour, shape, and rummaging through people’s musty, old treasures, I was always destined to arrive at this space. I’m a collector and I’m fascinated, and totally swept up by the connection people make with things, particularly cloth. All the fabrics featured in the Gracie Keal Collection were once adored and lived by someone else before they found new life in my small Melbourne studio. When you choose a Gracie Keal doll, you inherit the story that led them to here, and for me, that’s just magic. We don’t make just any doll. It’s a slow and patient process. Every phase of design and creation is considered and dedicated to honouring traditional, ethical, and environmentally responsible practices. Buying Gracie Keal, you’re making more than just a friend; you’re making a difference, supporting a small business that’s stubbornly true to its values.</image:caption>

<image:caption>MILK KNITS - Perth WA MILK Knits proudly offers premium, handmade one-of-a-kind knitwear, made with care from our family to yours. I grew up in Northern Europe and learnt to knit at a young age. But it wasn’t until I was a mother-of-two that I picked up the needles again as a form of relaxation. It quickly became my passion. By early 2020 I had out-knitted what I could pass on to family and friends and so MILK Knits was born. MILK is an abbreviation of our family’s first names - Matas, Ieva, Lee and Kasper, an aptly named after the inspiration for the brand – family. I believe in shopping less, but smarter. In a world of fast fashion, MILK Knits offers a sustainable, natural alternative. MILK Knits focuses on only quality, timeless garments that will last a lifetime. My pieces are all one-of-a-kind, handmade with great care by using traditional craft of knitting fused with a modern twist. The result? Unique, long-lasting knitwear made from only the best in natural, sustainable locally sourced fibres. Premium garments that can be enjoyed and passed down from generation to generation. Words from our founder, Ieva . . . “I am proud to offer the highest quality and unique pieces, which are inspired by tradition with a modern twist. From our family to yours, I put lots of time, love and careful attention in each item. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy bringing in to you.”</image:caption>

The Howling Zodiac Rope Leashes and collars are all handcrafted on the South Coast of Australia using 100% cotton three-strand rope. Marine grade, quality cotton rope is soft yet strong and also has slight ‘give’ to ease the tension in your hands as your dog pulls. All of their rope products are dyed using a fibre reactive dye, which chemically bonds to the fibres of the rope, instead of just ‘staining’ the cotton like many other cheaper dyes. Because of this high quality dye, The Howling Zodiac ropes do not need to be bonded to the dye using hot water or harmful chemicals leaving them strong and safe.</image:caption>

<image:caption>MARGOT DESIGN - Sydney NSW I am an artist and designer and have recently returned to Sydney to release my own textile collections, working with local ethically chosen Australian suppliers working with luxury natural fibres, creating bespoke quality products. Generations of my family have been passionate about art, design, colour and textiles. Growing up in such a world has had a strong influence on me and my life as a designer. It has led to some of the most extraordinary travels and adventures. Early in my career I moved to Paris where I studied textiles. Living in a postage stamp sized roof top apartment near Sacre Coeur, I was walking distance to the textile markets - so much pattern and colour. Textiles became the constant thread of my career and travels. I started designing collections for some of the industry leaders, such as Mokum Texiltes & Warwick Fabrics and I was soon back in Europe on the shores of Lake Como talking colour and pattern, there were weeks in London researching trends, working on manufacturing floors in remote areas of China, visiting New York to hang a collection on 5th Avenue and even working in a tannery in the bottom of the north island of New Zealand. I returned to Sydney with a vigour to design from an Australian and specifically with a Sydney essence sense of style. Margot Design is not only a fresh interpretation on quintessentially Australian experiences, the label is endeavouring to keep the design culture alive in Australia. With the increasing amounts of manufacturing and production going offshore, Margot has intentionally kept all production locally in Australia, helping to keep important creative opportunities available. Each design is a bit about me, and Sydney my home, which I love.</image:caption>

For print inspiration we take a hike. In studio we enjoy traditional printmaking methods, using our hands and a squeegee to create each and every print. We source a mix of linen, canvas, paper and wooden surfaces for our prints, and stitch and construct locally within the Blue Mountain’s. We have been around here for a while now, establishing in 2006 when printmaker Freedom Wilson first arrived in the Blue Mountain’s from Central Australia, put on her boots and went walking through the incredible flowering Waratah’s of October's bush. Prints are ideveloped by drawing experience, animals that have watched us watching them, places that we have stopped to picnic, fallen leaves, wildflowers, and beautiful bouquets of native flowers from amazing local florists.</image:caption>

<image:caption>OPUS LAB - Sydney NSW Self taught designer Christopher Ramos Pires was always drawn to the satisfying experience of creating things with his own hands. Whilst always maintaining a dabbling interest in woodworking, Ramos worked in various industries before the creative urge finally burst out, a dabbling interest became an intense desire to create along with a newfound appreciation for the handmade. Out of this passion Opus Lab was born. Taking great inspiration from the design aesthetics of Japanese culture and the simplicity of Scandinavian design, his work is made with an emphasis on making homewares that are useful and beautiful. The design philosophy of Opus Lab is to bring attention to their handmade origin, resulting in beautiful handmade wares that yearn to be proudly displayed rather than hidden in a set of drawers or cabinets. His vision, to sit inside his own home and have all objects made by himself or someone he knows. From the smallest spoon to the grandest of dining tables. Handmade, loved. Whilst he works towards that dream it is his hope that he can share some of his passion and vision with the homes of others.</image:caption>

Flaming Flamingo was created in 2015 from a love of gorgeous fragrances and scented candles. I was always on the lookout for a better, stronger, longer lasting and more fragrant candle. I started to think about what was in the candles I was buying. I realised I could make a cleaner, more natural candle that's better for my family and for the environment but still had a gorgeous, strong long lasting scent. That's when I decided to make 100% eco soy candles myself.
